All Hail the new Queen of Hip Hop.... According to Rolling Stony Magazine that is. But what is a queen, who is a queen? Most of us would agree that a queen should be a lady, someone who is poised, kind, well-spoken, caring, and someone that takes care of the people who've in some way had an influence on making her the Queen that she now is. So Miss Minaj, it's debatable whether or not you possess all those qualities, however, one thing for sure is that your recent concert in your home country of Trinidad resulted in nothing short of disappointment. In the Documentary "My Time Now" which was aired on MTV that shadowed Nicki in preparation for her album and also when she visited Trinidad, her family in Trinidad as well as the hometown performance that she put on.
What the Documentary didn't say, is what the following article did: Trinidad AUDITED for OVERSPENDING . Nick Minaj's concert....where do i start? Nothing against Nick Minaj, nothing against her performing skills but Trinidad is no America. Yes Trinidad is the head of CARICOM , Yes Trinidad is doing much better that a lot of their West Indian neighbors, however even with the current state of the American economy, the overall worth of America and the financial standing of the country is much better than in Trinidad. Which is why it is so surprising that Miss Minaj felt that it was okay to charge her home country a total of $382,000 (TT) for her performance and entourage and another $60,343 to accommodate her and her crew in the Hilton. That is a total of $443,343 (TT) and to convert that to U.S. for you locals, that is $69,493.
Ms. Minaj's fees totaled about half of the total costs of the concert. I understand that she's married to the BENJAMINS however, some consideration should have taken to the current economic state of the country she seems to openly rep. Being a Trinidadian born and raised, I quite frankly take offense to that, don't rep a country where the culture encompasses kindness, selflessness and charity. I understand that nothing in life is free but Nicki Minaj came to Trinidad not only to perform but to visit her family and spending maybe $5000 US in a mall in Trinidad, does nothing for our country or our people. I give credit where credit is due and even though I may not always be a fan, I must say Miss Minaj made a success of her life and a name for herself. It was her grandmother who raised her in Trinidad til she was 5, if she had the respect she claims she does for her family, and for her country, and was so giving like she portrayed herself to be in that documentary, then that price tag wouldn't have been close to that high.
